Thailand's export boom, in numbers
Thai exports reached a record $339.6 billion in 2025, up 12.9%, according to the Ministry of Commerce, with industrial products up 17.4%. Electronics drove the growth: computers, hard disk drives and integrated circuits linked to AI and data-centre demand. Thailand is no longer just an auto-and-food economy. It's becoming a major electronics manufacturing base too.
The PCB wave: new factories, new risks
Thailand has become Southeast Asia's main destination for printed circuit board (PCB) production. The Board of Investment (BOI) received 214 PCB-related project applications between 2023 and November 2025, worth more than THB 300 billion, mostly from Chinese and Taiwanese manufacturers moving capacity out of China. Many of these plants only began production from 2025.

Electric vehicles are the growth area: Thailand exported its first EVs in April 2025, and the BOI has promoted 21 battery-EV projects with combined capacity of about 386,000 units a year. For auto-parts buyers, that means many new tier-2 and tier-3 suppliers. Expect dimensional inspection, material certificates and PPAP-style documentation to matter more than cosmetic checks.
EU trade: deal in progress
Thailand and the EU are negotiating a free trade agreement. The 10th round took place in September–October 2026, and both sides are aiming to finish talks by the end of 2026. It won't apply until it's concluded and ratified, so don't build EU duty savings into your costing yet.

Songkran (Thai New Year), 13–15 April: a multi-day national shutdown, with many workers travelling home for longer.

Regulations & Compliance When Importing from Thailand
Your destination market's product rules apply: for example CE/UKCA, RoHS/REACH and FCC for electronics, and food-safety and residue rules for processed food. For EU-bound goods there's no FTA yet, so standard EU tariffs apply until an agreement comes into force.
A supplier's claim of "CE certified" is often a self-declaration rather than independent notified-body testing. A pre-shipment inspection confirms the goods and labelling match spec, and a factory & supplier audit — or a social compliance audit where labour standards matter — verifies the supplier's systems.
